About Me

I`ve always had a fascination with nature, trees especially.  I`ve lived in the southwestern part of Colorado, Alaska, and now reside in northeast Iowa on a heavily wooded farm. A degree in forestry acquired in Alaska only made my passion for trees expand.

Upon moving back to the lower 48 and living in the city, I was missing my forests and nature. So began my fascination with bonsai.  Soon the balcony of my apartment was full of trees. That was over 25 years ago and my fascination with bonsai has only grown.

I find inspiration in nature.  The tortured little trees hanging on the side of a cliff or the blown-out top of a pine on the shore of a lake demonstrates the beauty that can emerge from overcoming adversity.

A lot of my experience comes from 25 plus years of trial and error and doing countless hours of research.  I’ve found you need to experiment and find what works best for you, as the environment differs from locale to locale.

Bonsai requires patience, persistence and the ability to change your direction of development - traits I find valuable in myself and others.

For me it is not important what we do to these trees but what they do to us. Bonsai for me is an escape into nature and art.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions or comments. I appreciate your interest and wish you the best on your bonsai journey!
